Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden August 10, 2006

Cassie gave me this book along with the DVD for Mothers Day with strict instructions to read the book first. I'm so glad I did. This is a beautifully written book, visually stunning. I wasn't prepared to enjoy it as much as I did. Although I read it in May, I still remember the pictures Golden created in my mind with his fantastic imagery. Even watching the movie didn't change many of the scenes I had already imagined. The movie is wonderful also but be sure to read the book first. Thanks, Cassie for the both the book and the movie. Here are two quotes I had marked to remember:
"We lead our lives like water flowing down a hill, going more or less in one direction until we splash into something that forces us to find a new course."
"Several years had passed since I'd learned the sad news about my family, and it was amazing to me how completely the landscape of my mind had changed. We all know that a winter scene, thought it may be covered over one day, with even the trees dressed in shawls of snow, will be unrecognizable the following spring. Yet I had never imagined such a thing could occur within our very selves."

I have it on my list, the question is when? I especially like that quote about water going down hill. That feels like my life right now. I'm a little nervous what the rocks are up ahead.

I'm so glad you liked it. My book club is talking about it next week. Since I suggested it I have to lead the discussion. I have no idea what I want to talk about since I didn't reread the book but I'll figure it out. I do remember all the beautiful images.

Book, it's not so bad unless you hit the rocks head first.Cassie, try reading the customer comments on Amazon. They always bring up stuff that would make for a good discussion.
