The Red Tent by Anita Diamant June 5, 2006
A fictionalized version of Dinah, the daughter of Jacob and his first wife, Leah. I'm going to have to read Genesis 34 to get more background because the story really reaches out there. Most of the men in the book are pretty despicable even Jacob-Israel and Joseph. It mainly focuses on women and their relationships. "If you want to understand any woman you must first ask about her mother and then listen carefully. . . . .The more a daughter knows the details of her mother's life--without flinching or whining--the stronger the daughter." I love the idea of the women isolating themselves each monthly cycle in a red tent where they are pampered and away from life's drudgeries. How civilized.

I have tried several times to read The Red Tent and just can't get into it. I have A Year of Wonders on my TBR list. I wonder if I'll ever get to it. I just bought fabric for a new quilt and a couple new X-stitch patterns. I'm going to have to quit sleeping. I've alread quit housework.
